Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is one of the Agencies under the Ministry of the Interior.
The Service which was re-established by an Act of Parliament in 1997, Ghana National Fire Service Act, 1997, Act 537. has the sole responsibility of “preventing and managing undesired fire”

To achieve this primary responsibility, the agency has to carry out the following programs;

  • Organize public education programs to create and sustain awareness of hazards of fire; and heighten the role of the individual in the prevention of fire.
  • Provide technical advice for building plans in respect of machinery and structural layouts to facilitate escape from fire rescue operations and fire management.
  • Inspect and offer technical advice on fire extinguishers.
  • Co-ordinate and advise on the training of personnel in firefighting departments of Institutions in the Country;
  • Train and organize fire volunteer squads at community level.
  • Offer rescue and evacuation services to those trapped by fire or in other emergency situations; and
  • Undertake any other function incidental to the objective of the service.

General Qualification and requirement for Ghana fire service Job

To apply and be successful for Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) recruitment, applicant must be;

  •  A Ghanaian citizen by birth.
  • With no criminal record and of good character.
  • Not less than 18 years of age and not more than 26 years of age for Non-Tradesmen,35-40 years for Drivers,
  • Not more than 30 years for the Officer Corps.
  • physically and medically fit by Fire service standards.
  • Of a minimum height of 1.73 Meters (5ft 8Inches) for males and 1.63 Meters (5ft 4Inches) for females.
  • Of a good character.

In addition, each categories has it peculiar requirements and qualifications, which are to wit

CATEGORY A

RECRUITS

A. Firefighters and Rescue Crew

In addition to satisfy general requirements as stated above, all applicants must
have the following:

Five(5) Credits in SSCE/WASSCE, Including Core English and Core Mathematics or five(5) credits in the Ghana
Education Service(GES) Intermediate Level Certificate, including English and Mathematics or ‘A’ Level /’o’
Level with credit in English and Mathematics.

B Drivers and Driver Mechanics

In addition to satisfy general requirements as stated above, all applicants must
have the following:

  •  SSCE/WASSCE ‘O’/’A’ Level GES Intermediate Level, caccidentNVTI Grades I & II Automobile Certificate or J.S.S Certificate
    with 10years driving experience.
  • Driver License D or F
  • Minimum of five accident-free driving experience

C. IT TECHNICIANS

In addition to satisfy general requirements as stated above, all applicants must
have the following:

  • A Professional Certificate in Software Development.
  • Website Development & Maintenance.
  • Database Administration from an Accredited Institution.

D. REGISTERED GENERAL NURSES(RGN)

In addition to satisfy general requirements as stated above, all applicants must
have;

  • Certificate or Diploma in Nursing from an Accredited Institution.

E. Bandsmen

In addition to satisfy general requirements as stated above all applicants must
have the following:

  • Regimental Band
  1.  Should be able to play more than three(3) Instruments including Clarinets, Bassoons, Flutes, Alto and
    Tenor Sax.
  2. Should be able to read the staff notation.
  3. Percussion: Should be good at every aspect of Percussion.
  • Dance Band
  1.  Keyboardist should be conversant with all types of songs.
  2. Vocalist must be able to sing all types of songs and back the song as well.
  3. Bass and Lead Guitarist should be conversant with all types of songs.

CATEGORY B

THE OFFICER CORPS

In addition to satisfy general requirements as stated above all applicants must
have the following:

  1. Engineers
    A minimum of First Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering,
    Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Building Technology from an Accredited Tertiary
    Institution.
  2. Forensic Scientist
    A minimum of First Degree in Physics, Chemistry, CounselingBio-Chemistry or Computer Science from an AccreditedTertiary Institution.
  3. Registered General Nurses (RGN)
    A minimum of First Degree in Nursing from an Accredited Tertiary Institution.
  4. Counselors
    A minimum of First Counseling from an Accredited Tertiary Institution.
  5. Accounts Officers
    A minimum of First Degree or Higher National Diploma(HND) in Accounting from and Accredited Tertiary
    Institution.
  6. Lawyers
    Applicants must have the following:
  •  LLB/BL qualification from an Accredited Institution.
  • Not more than 35 years of age.

7. Public Relations Officers
Applicants must have:

A minimum of First Degree in Communication Studies, Public Relations, Journalism.or Marketing from and
      Accredited Institution.

  • Visit the Ghana National Fire Service, GNFS Recruitment Portal via http://apply.joingnfs.com/
  • Click on the Apply Now tab and enter the e-voucher serial and pin code details. Select your highest educational level.
  • Select preferred branch and enter your Bio and Educational data and upload a passport sized picture of dimension (200×180) pixels before submitting.
  • Print out a copy of the application summary report, which contains details of your Applicant Identification (ID Number) and other relevant data.
  • Once the application is successfully submitted you can come back before the closing date to print your summary report with help of the card purchased.

Meanwhile, Shortlisted applicants will be contacted via e-mail for Screening and Examination at the Screening Centre selected during the online application

Furthermore,  all applicants who are successful in the Screening Examination will be invited in batches, for Medical Examination.

Note: Only applicants who are successful in the Screening Examination will be invited for training.
